First United Methodist Church
has a strong tradition and a deep appreciation of fine arts
in worship. Musically, the church supports five handbell choirs,
adult and children's vocal choirs, and an eclectic mix of instrumental
music ranging from bagpipes to strings to a band with drums
and guitars. Worship is enhanced by creative art in the chancel
and narthex. |

Singers
The Sanctuary Choir rehearses Wednesdays from
7:30-9:00 p.m. This adult SATB
group provides music for worship each Sunday, September - May, in a variety of styles
from classical to gospel. The choir welcomes new members, including
high school and college students. Contact Mary Whitlock through
the church office, or just come.
Tapestry, a contemporary praise team, rehearses Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m. Tapestry provides music leadership for the 11 a.m.
Sunday service, September-May. For more information, contact Tim Robinson, coordinator,
through the church office.
Art
The
Fine Arts Committee at FUMC works to establish a warm, welcoming, and worshipful
atmosphere at the church. Because so many of us take in a
significant amount of information visually, colorful banners, paper cutouts, flowers, balloons, candles, and more can effectively enhance
the worship experience.
Sometimes when words fail, images can communicate unspeakable thoughts
and emotions. Simple things can become symbols which, like the parables, continue
to reveal deeper and deeper meanings throughout the week, even as
we leave to conduct our lives outside the church walls.
The
Fine Art Committee welcomes suggestions and feedback by using the
mail slot in the office. Anyone can join the team at any time; we
especially need extra hands in early fall, Christmas, Easter, and
spring.
