Reconciling & Racism
In order to "walk the talk" of seeing Christ in
all we encounter, First United Methodist Church is actively involved
in two social justice ministries.
FUMC has declared itself to be a Reconciling Congregation with regard to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons. By making such a statement, we challenge ourselves to consider how it is persons who are "other than" heterosexual have all too often been marginalized in communities of faith.
Our Dismantling Racism ministry task force is taking an honest look at the extent of our personal and shared racism. Through training, awareness-raising, and advocacy, our congregation seeks to address the pervasive sickness of racism in our culture. By undertaking such a ministry, we acknowledge our own need for healing from racism and embrace our call to eradicate this blight from God's creation. |
