Congratulations to violist Josh Peterson and violinist Nikki Hill, who received first and second place at the annual DSSO Young Artist Competition. This competition draws young musicians from all of Northern Minnesota, Northern Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan.
As first place winner, Josh performed with the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra at the DSSO’s Young People’s Concert on Feb 27.
A sophomore at Duluth East, Josh is a member of the DSSO Youth Symphony, along with freshman sister Josie. Denfeld senior Nikki Hill serves as concertmaster of the DSSO Youth Symphony. Josh, Nikki, and Josie are active participants in the First UMC music program.
Last year CHUM helped provide food for more than 6,000 people, 7% of Duluth’s population. Non-perishable food donations may be left in the grocery cart in the narthex. The Food Shelf also needs paper grocery bags.
Many thanks to Mary Wright, Barb Kim, David Craig and everyone who brought or bought goodies for last week’s sale. Proceeds totaled $447.25 for church operations and music scholarships.
Ruby’s Pantry this month will be Thursday, July 16. Volunteers are needed to greet our guests, prepare food for distribution, and share the food with them. You may volunteer anytime between 3 pm and 8 pm and can come for as little as an hour to help out.
